St. Anne's Church

Large bilingual Catholic church tied to Penetanguishene's French-Ontarian community.

St. Anne's Church is sometimes called the Cathedral of the North, a big name for a town this small. Built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it reflects the French Catholic families who helped shape Penetanguishene.

The interest is as much cultural as architectural. Together with St. James on-the-Lines, it shows how the town grew from both garrison and French-Ontarian roots.
