Last Mountain House marks the site of a short-lived Hudson's Bay Company winter outpost founded in 1869. The post was built to compete in the buffalo robe trade, worked for a brief time, and was not rebuilt after fire and changing trade routes ended its usefulness.
Today the attraction is quiet: reconstructed buildings, prairie air, and the sense of how thin and exposed fur-trade life could be away from the major forts. It pairs naturally with Valeport Marsh nearby.
