Art Gallery of Swift Current

The Art Gallery of Swift Current (AGSC) has been a professional public gallery since 1974, presenting contemporary art with a focus on Saskatchewan and western Canadian artists. It's attached to the town library, admission is free, and it has an outsized reputation for its exhibitions given the size of the city — the gallery has mounted shows by some of the province's most celebrated artists and regularly brings in work from across the country.

The gallery's commitment to contemporary rather than decorative art makes it a surprise in a mid-sized prairie city. Rotating exhibitions change several times a year. It's worth checking what's on before visiting, as the quality and interest level varies considerably with the programme, but even minor shows are worth a look if you're passing through.
