The Museum of the Battle of Girón sits at the southern end of the Bay of Pigs road in the village of Playa Girón. It is a single squat building with a Sea Fury fighter and a Soviet T-34 tank parked outside, both used in the 1961 defence against the CIA-backed invasion.
The exhibits inside are entirely from the Cuban perspective — uniforms, photographs of fighters, weapons, fragments of the Brigade 2506 aircraft shot down — and the captions are unsubtle. Even so, the museum is the best place in Cuba to understand the operation in detail, and the diorama of the three-day battle is genuinely informative if you can read the Spanish. Entry is cheap; allow 30 to 45 minutes.
