Bosque Conchagua protects forest on the slopes above La Unión, where the climate turns cooler and greener than the port below. It is the natural counterpart to the gulf: birds, shade, and volcanic ridges rather than docks and fishing boats.
The forest is best visited as part of a Conchagua volcano outing. Trails and access arrangements change, so check locally before setting out. The reward is not a single dramatic monument but the sense of how quickly the landscape shifts from hot coastal lowland to cloudier upland forest.
