Isla Meanguera sits farther out in the Gulf of Fonseca and feels more remote than Zacatillo. The island has small settlements, beaches, and views toward Nicaragua's Cosigüina peninsula. It is one of the places where the gulf's shared geography becomes obvious.
Getting here takes more planning than a quick harbour cruise. Arrange a boat with someone who knows the route and the weather, and keep your schedule flexible. The appeal is the journey as much as the island: open water, volcanic silhouettes, and a part of El Salvador that few visitors see.
