View Over Petite Martinique

Look out across the channel to Petite Martinique and Petit St Vincent

From the road behind the beach the view opens out over the channel to Petite Martinique, a steep little volcanic island home to about 900 people, and beyond it to Petit St Vincent, just across the international border in the Grenadines. On clear afternoons you can also pick out the southern Tobago Cays in the distance.

Sailboats coming down from the Grenadines often anchor in the lee of these islands, and the channel between Carriacou and Petite Martinique fills up with traffic during the August regatta. A water taxi will run you across to Petite Martinique in about twenty minutes; there is little to see there beyond a few rum shops and another small boatbuilding tradition, but the crossing is part of the appeal.
