The Piton

The Piton is Petite Martinique's high point, rising to about 230 metres above a very small island. The walk is short but steep, and the reward is a view that makes sense of the southern Grenadines: Carriacou close by, Petit St Vincent beyond, and a scatter of low islands and reefs in clear weather.

Go early, wear real shoes, and avoid the climb in heavy heat or after rain. There is little shade on the exposed upper slopes, and the path is not managed like a formal national-park trail. The summit is best treated as a local hike, not a casual flip-flop stroll.

A story
The Piton is tied to the island's Sugaring of the Piton tradition, a St Patrick's Day maroon in which libations are poured to welcome rain and a good planting season. It is a small summit, but it carries a large share of Petite Martinique's cultural memory.
