St. Louis King of France Cathedral

St. Louis King of France Cathedral, the town's main landmark

The cathedral stands on the central square, a white twin-towered Catholic church that doubles as Jérémie's most prominent landmark. The interior is plain and high-ceilinged, the windows mostly clear glass — practical for a town that has lost stained glass to too many storms.

Mass times are posted at the door. Visitors are welcome outside of services.

A story
The cathedral was built in the late 19th century and serves as the seat of the Diocese of Jérémie. Like much else in the town, it has been knocked about by hurricanes — most recently Matthew in 2016, which tore off part of the roof and damaged the tower. Locals had it patched back up within a few years; the white twin-spired façade is the first thing you see from the harbour.
