The cloud forest is the reason Macaya Peak National Park exists. Moist air from the Caribbean rises into the Massif de la Hotte, feeding mossy trees, ferns, orchids, and a cooler ecosystem very different from the dry hillsides many people associate with Haiti.
Access is hard, and the forest should not be treated as an adventure playground. Trails can be rough, weather can close in fast, and the ecological value of the place depends on visitors, researchers, and guides moving carefully.
