Pic Macaya

Pic Macaya is the park's namesake summit and one of the great mountains of the Caribbean, though few travellers ever see it. The peak sits deep in the Massif de la Hotte, far from the usual routes across Haiti, and reaches 2,347 metres above sea level.

The mountain is important for water, forest, and biodiversity as much as for hiking. Any ascent requires serious preparation, local guidance, and current knowledge of security and trail conditions. This is not a peak to tick off casually.

A story
Pic Macaya rises to 2,347 metres, making it Haiti's second-highest mountain after Pic la Selle. Its height matters less than its isolation: the surrounding cloud forest is one of the last places where several Haitian endemic species still have room to survive.
