Anse Madame is the small bay at the centre of Schoelcher, curving around a calm stretch of Caribbean water with views across the bay toward Fort-de-France. The beach is narrow but well-kept, backed by coconut palms and a waterfront promenade with a few cafes and snack stalls. On weekends it fills with Martinicans from the capital; on weekday mornings it is nearly empty.
The bay is sheltered enough for children and non-swimmers, and the snorkelling at the edges of the bay is reasonable — sea urchins, small reef fish, and occasionally an octopus under the rocks. It is the most accessible beach close to Fort-de-France and considerably less developed than the beaches on the island's Atlantic coast.
