Carenage Bay

The finest beach on the island, pale sand in a sheltered bay

Carenage Bay on the western coast is generally considered Canouan's best beach — a long arc of pale sand with calm, clear water and a good view across to the neighbouring Grenadines. The bay is sheltered from the prevailing trade winds, making it a reliable anchorage for yachts sailing through the island chain.

The beach is accessible both from the resort side and by walking from Charlestown, though the resort controls much of the immediate beachfront. The surrounding hills drop steeply to the water, giving the bay a particularly enclosed and dramatic setting. Sunsets here, looking west over the Caribbean Sea, are outstanding.
