Mount Taboi is the highest peak on Union Island, rising steeply from the dry scrubland in the northwest of the island. The hike to the summit takes about 90 minutes from Clifton and gains around 300 metres of height on a trail that starts well-marked but becomes faint higher up. A guide from the village is useful for the final section.
The views from the top are extraordinary — the whole southern Grenadines spread below you, with Palm Island, Petit St Vincent, Mayreau, and the Tobago Cays all visible at once. The coral formations around the island are also visible through the clear water from this height, giving the lagoons their distinctive turquoise and deep-blue patchwork. Bring plenty of water; the ascent is exposed and there is no shade on the upper slopes.
