The Sheldon Museum is the main local history museum in Haines, covering Tlingit culture, the mission period, Fort Seward, mining, fishing, and the people who shaped the town. It is small, but it helps connect the scenic setting to the human history around Lynn Canal and the Chilkat Valley.
Go early in your visit. The town and fort are more interesting once you know what you are looking at.
