Keystone Canyon is the spectacular final approach to Valdez on the Richardson Highway, a narrow gorge where waterfalls drop from dark cliffs almost straight onto the road. Bridal Veil Falls and Horsetail Falls are the obvious stops, with turnouts that make them easy to see without a hike.
The canyon is more than a pretty drive. It was part of the old route into the Interior, and in winter its frozen waterfalls become serious ice climbs. In summer, stop rather than just rolling through; the sound and spray are half the experience.
