North of Miami off AZ-188, the old Inspiration Consolidated Copper Company workings left behind an open pit and the ghost town of Inspiration — once a substantial company-owned settlement with its own amenities, now largely demolished. The pit itself is visible from the road, and the surrounding landscape of waste rock and tailings gives a clear picture of the industrial scale that defined this part of Gila County for much of the 20th century.
The Pinto Valley Mine to the northwest (near the junction of AZ-188 and Globe-Miami Road) remains active and gives the district a continuing industrial character. The contrast between the still-working mine and the abandoned infrastructure of older operations is part of what makes the Miami mining district worth exploring as a landscape rather than just passing through.
Access to the immediate pit area is limited, but the road approaches give enough of a view to make the short detour from Miami worthwhile.
