Quartzsite Museum

Small history museum in the old Tyson's Well stage-station area, with mining and pioneer displays.

Quartzsite Museum, also known as Tyson's Well Stage Station Museum, is the town's best short introduction to its pre-RV history. The displays cover mining, stage travel, pioneer life, and the practical business of surviving in a hot, dry place.

It is modest, but that suits Quartzsite. Pair it with Hi Jolly Monument and the town's winter markets, and the desert settlement starts to make more sense than it does from the freeway.

A story
Quartzsite's earlier name, Tyson's Well, came from the water source and fort Charles Tyson established in the 1850s. In desert travel, water was infrastructure; control the well and you controlled whether a road could work.
