Colby Memorial Temple

Colby Memorial Temple is the religious heart of the Cassadaga community, named for the camp's founder George Colby. It holds regular Sunday services and midweek healing meetings, both open to the public. The temple is a simple wood-frame building typical of early 20th-century Florida vernacular architecture, unremarkable from outside but charged with the particular atmosphere of a space used continuously for the same purpose for over a century.

The community also runs a weekly healing meeting and various educational programmes including development circles for people interested in learning mediumship. The bookshop in the camp carries an eclectic stock of Spiritualist literature, metaphysics, and related subjects; it is worth browsing even for the curious sceptic.

A story
The Sunday services at Colby Memorial Temple are open to the public and typically include a demonstration of mediumship — a certified medium reads for members of the congregation. These services are not entertainment but genuine religious practice: Spiritualism is a recognised religion in the United States with its own theology, and Cassadaga is its most established American community outside of Lily Dale in upstate New York.
