Gulfstream Park is a thoroughbred horse racing track a few kilometres south of Hollywood Beach in Hallandale Beach, one of the classic Florida race tracks and host of the Florida Derby. Racing runs mainly from January through April, and a summer meeting in May and June. The atmosphere on race days is a proper mix of serious horse people, casual gamblers, and families.
The complex has been expanded with a casino, restaurants, and retail, making it a destination even on non-race days. If you have any interest in horse racing or just want something different from the beach, an afternoon at Gulfstream is a good option. The track itself is attractive, with the grandstand shaded and views across the oval to the infield lake.
