Homestead Historic Downtown District

A few square blocks of pre-Hurricane Andrew Homestead survive around Krome Avenue and Flagler. The district includes the 1917 Homestead Town Hall, the Seminole Cafe and Hotel, the Fuchs Bakery building, and a handful of 1920s storefronts now housing antique shops and Cuban lunch counters.

The whole district was listed on the National Register in 2007 — a reminder that Homestead was a real town before it became the staging post for the parks. Walk it in about thirty minutes. Stop for café con leche at one of the Cuban places along the way.
