Downtown Historic District

Brick-paved Main Street with turn-of-the-century commercial buildings, galleries, and antique shops

Leesburg's downtown core has held onto its bones better than most small Florida cities: brick-paved streets, two- and three-storey commercial blocks from the 1890s through the 1920s, and an old-fashioned Main Street scale that rewards a slow walk. A handful of galleries, antique shops, coffee spots, and local restaurants have settled into the storefronts, giving the district enough activity to feel alive without being overdeveloped.

The Leesburg Heritage Museum, housed in the original 1917 city hall building, tells the city's story from its founding through the citrus boom years and into the present. It is a small but well-curated operation. The Saturday farmers' market runs downtown and draws a good crowd of locals from late autumn through spring.
