Kumquat Growers

Kumquat Growers is a working farm and packing house a few miles outside Dade City. They run a small shop with kumquat pies, marmalades, candies, and the fresh fruit in season (roughly November through April). It is the kind of place that exists almost by accident — a niche citrus that nobody else cared to grow at scale, kept alive by a few families.

The farm is the best place to buy the products at the source, and the annual Kumquat Festival each January is the town's biggest event, drawing forty thousand visitors for a long weekend of music, food, and the kumquat pie contest.

A story
Pasco County produces more kumquats than anywhere else in the United States, and the annual Kumquat Festival in late January takes over downtown Dade City — kumquat pie, kumquat marmalade, kumquat ice cream, kumquat barbecue sauce. The fruit was introduced to Florida from Asia in the late 1800s and thrived in the sandy soil here.
