Pasco County Courthouse

The Historic Pasco County Courthouse anchors downtown Dade City and is by far the most recognisable building in eastern Pasco County. Built in 1909 from yellow brick with a domed cupola painted gold, it sits in the middle of a square block with mature live oaks shading the lawn. It is still in occasional ceremonial use, though daily court business moved to a newer building nearby.

The interior has been carefully restored and is open for visits during business hours. The marble staircase, the original wooden benches, and a small museum of county history are all worth a few minutes. Outside, the lawn hosts the town's biggest events: the Kumquat Festival in January and the Christmas tree lighting in December.

A story
The 1909 courthouse stands on the highest point in town and dominates Meridian Avenue. Its golden dome was repainted in the 1990s after decades of weather had dulled it to a dirty bronze — the restoration committee picked the colour from a single colour photo taken in 1955.
