Paw Playground Dog Beach

Florida is not generous with off-leash beaches, which is why Paw Playground is one of the most visited corners of the park. It has three fenced areas — small dog, large dog, and a beach run that opens onto a stretch of Bay shoreline where dogs can swim. Tap water, washing stations, and shaded benches keep things civilised in the heat.

Mornings before 10am and evenings after 5pm are the most pleasant for both dogs and owners; midday sun on the open sand is punishing in summer. The Bay water here is shallow and warm, with no surf, so even nervous swimmers tend to wade in eventually. Bring a towel — there is a rinse station but no shower. The park rangers are firm about leashing in the rest of the park.
