Museum of North Idaho

Regional history museum covering the Coeur d'Alene people, Fort Sherman, steamboats, railroads, and mining.

The Museum of North Idaho is a small but worthwhile stop near City Park. Its exhibits cover the Coeur d'Alene people, Fort Sherman, steamboat travel on the lake, railroads, logging, and the mining valleys that shaped the wider region.

It helps balance the town's resort image. Coeur d'Alene is easy to read as lakefront leisure, but the museum gives the harder history behind the waterfront: Indigenous homelands, military settlement, extractive industry, and the routes that tied northern Idaho to the inland Northwest.
