Cataldo Mission

Old Mission State Park preserves Idaho's oldest standing building east of Kellogg.

Cataldo Mission, formally the Mission of the Sacred Heart, is one of the most important historic sites in northern Idaho. Built by Jesuit missionaries and the Coeur d'Alene people in the mid-19th century, the church is often described as Idaho's oldest standing building, and it has the quiet gravity that old frontier places sometimes carry.

From Kellogg it works as a short drive through Silver Valley history rather than a quick downtown sight. The simple church, visitor center, and surrounding park put the mining towns into a wider story of Indigenous land, mission activity, and early travel through the mountains.
