Rialto Square Theatre

Lavish 1920s theatre with ornate Greek, Roman, and Byzantine-inspired interiors.

Rialto Square Theatre is Joliet's grand downtown interior, opened in 1926 as a richly decorated movie palace and vaudeville house. Its design borrows freely from Greek, Roman, and Byzantine motifs, with the kind of staircases, chandeliers, and ornament that make early American theatres so enjoyable to tour.

Come for a show if the timing works, or check whether public tours are running. Even a short visit changes the feel of downtown Joliet, showing a more elegant side of a city better known for prison walls and highways.
