The Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum is Pontiac's headline attraction, housed in a former fire station downtown. It collects signs, maps, photographs, vehicles, and road-trip stories from the Illinois stretch of the old highway, with enough detail to satisfy both casual drivers and serious Route 66 people.
The stop works because it spills into the town around it. The big shield mural outside has become a standard road-trip photo, and the nearby wayside exhibits make Pontiac feel like a small outdoor chapter of the route rather than a single museum stop.
