Murals on Main Street

Downtown mural route telling Pontiac's Route 66 and local history in bright paint.

Pontiac's downtown murals are the city's best free pleasure. They cover Route 66, local history, old advertising traditions, and small-town boosterism, turning a few blocks of brick walls into a walking route.

The largest and most photographed mural is the Route 66 shield behind the museum, with original road bricks at its base. Do not stop there. The better experience is to follow the loop slowly and let the murals pull you into side streets you would otherwise miss.
