Pontiac's Swinging Bridges

Three pedestrian suspension bridges crossing the Vermilion River near downtown.

Pontiac has three pedestrian swinging bridges across the Vermilion River, all close enough to downtown to fold into a museum-and-murals walk. The wooden decking has been replaced over time, but the ironwork keeps the bridges from feeling like a modern gimmick.

They are a small pleasure rather than a headline sight. After an hour indoors, though, the bridges give you fresh air, river views, and a reason to see a quieter edge of town.
