The Majestic Theatre on East Main Street opened in 1908 as a vaudeville and silent-film house and has been in more or less continuous use ever since — a small-town movie palace that survived where many didn't. The terracotta facade, marquee, and original ticket booth are intact, and the auditorium retains its old plasterwork.
Run today as a community theatre with a programme of films, live music, and local productions, the Majestic is the anchor of Streator's modest cultural scene. The annual Pipe Dreams festival in February — which brings together performances on seven historic pipe organs in churches around town — has the theatre as one of its venues.
