The Silas Williams House is a Queen Anne mansion built in 1890 for a Streator industrialist and later owned by Edward Baker, a local newspaper publisher. It is a textbook example of the style: a tall corner tower with a candle-snuffer roof, asymmetrical massing, decorative shingle work in the gables, and a wraparound porch with turned columns.
The house is privately owned but visible from the street and on the National Register of Historic Places. It is part of a pocket of well-preserved late-Victorian houses on Streator's east side that hint at the wealth the town's glass and coal industries generated in the 1880s and 1890s.
