Chicago Executive Airport

Chicago Executive Airport (PWK) is a general aviation airport just south of central Wheeling, jointly owned by the village of Wheeling and the city of Prospect Heights. It is the third-busiest airport in Illinois by movements, behind O'Hare and Midway, and is the preferred entry point for private aircraft serving the northern Chicago suburbs.

There is a public viewing area off Wolf Road where you can watch the traffic — a steady stream of business jets, training aircraft, and helicopters. The on-airport diner is open to the public and is a quiet spot for a coffee.

A story
Once known as Palwaukee — a portmanteau of Palatine and Milwaukee Road — the airport has been operating since 1925 and is one of the busiest reliever airports in the U.S. It handles business jets, charter flights, and flight schools, with the occasional celebrity arrival quietly parked on the apron.
