The Carnegie Museum occupies Indiana's first Carnegie Library building, a handsome Beaux-Arts structure built in 1901 with a grant from Andrew Carnegie. The library became a museum when the new public library was built, and it now holds the historical collections of Montgomery County — photographs, maps, documents, and objects covering local history from the early settlement period onward.
The Lew Wallace material here overlaps with the Study museum but covers different aspects of his life, particularly his military career and his time as governor of New Mexico. The building itself, with its arched windows and classical proportions, is worth the short walk from the town centre.
