Wabash College was founded in 1832 and remains, stubbornly, one of only three all-male liberal arts colleges left in the United States. The campus on the south side of Crawfordsville is small and handsome — mostly 19th-century brick buildings on a green quadrangle — and gives the city its academic character. The college has a strong academic reputation, particularly in the humanities, and its alumni have gone on to positions far out of proportion to the school's size.
The campus is open to visitors and is pleasant for a walk. The Pioneer Chapel, a Greek Revival building from 1836, is the oldest building and worth a look. The Lilly Library on campus holds a notable collection of Wabash County historical material.
