Washington Park is the reason most visitors come to Michigan City. The beach is wide enough for a proper summer day, and the long pier gives the classic walk out toward the red-roofed East Light.
The park also has picnic space, a marina, and easy access to the zoo. It can feel busy on hot weekends, but it is still the city's most useful and scenic public space.
