Washington Park Zoo

Small hillside zoo across from Lake Michigan, with historic WPA stonework and family-friendly exhibits.

Washington Park Zoo has been part of the lakefront since 1928. It is compact, but the hillside paths, old stone structures, and lake setting give it more character than a standard small-city zoo.

It works best as part of a Washington Park visit rather than a separate outing. Families will get the most out of it, especially when the observation tower and seasonal attractions are open.
