The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods occupy a peaceful campus northwest of Terre Haute. The order was founded in 1840 by Saint Mother Theodore Guerin, and the grounds welcome visitors interested in shrines, historic architecture, gardens, and the order's long role in Indiana education.
It is a different sort of stop from downtown Terre Haute: quieter, greener, and more reflective. Go if religious history, campus walks, or old institutional landscapes appeal to you.
