Fort Larned National Historic Site

Nine intact 1860s frontier army buildings on the Kansas plains

Nine original stone buildings from the 1860s stand on the open Kansas plains, furnishing a complete picture of frontier army life. The barracks, officers' quarters, commissary, bakery and blockhouses are all intact and furnished to their period appearance. Rangers lead tours and the visitor centre explains both the military history and the fort's role in the dispossession of the Cheyenne and Arapaho. Open year-round; free admission as a National Park Service site.
