Santa Fe Trail Center

Regional history museum on the Santa Fe Trail

A regional history museum on the western edge of town, with a strong focus on the Santa Fe Trail — the 1,200-mile wagon road from Missouri to New Mexico that ran past Larned in the 19th century. Exhibits cover Plains Indians, fur trappers, the cattle drives, and a reconstructed sod house and one-room schoolhouse outside. Smaller and more idiosyncratic than the fort, but a useful complement that fills in the wider context.
