Winfield City Lake

1,200-acre reservoir for fishing, swimming, and weekend picnics

A 1,200-acre reservoir 13 kilometres north of town, built in 1925 to supply Winfield with water and now the city's main outdoor playground. Channel catfish, largemouth bass, and white crappie are the usual catches; the surrounding hills are wooded with oak and hickory and turn rust-coloured in October.

A small public beach, boat ramps, and picnic shelters dot the shoreline. The 35-kilometre lake-loop road is a pleasant Sunday drive. Bass tournaments through summer, with the Kansas State High School Bass Federation regularly fishing here.
