Floyd Collins Museum

Small museum on the cave explorer whose fatal 1925 entrapment helped draw attention to Mammoth Cave.

The Floyd Collins Museum tells the story of one of Kentucky cave country's most famous tragedies. Collins, an early cave explorer, became trapped in Sand Cave in 1925; the failed rescue drew national attention and helped build support for the national park.

The museum is a niche stop, but it adds human history to a region that can otherwise feel like a string of cave entrances and gift shops.
