Chandler Store

19th-century general store in the village centre

The Chandler Store is a wood-framed 1880s general store in the centre of Belgrade Lakes Village, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was the village's main commercial building for the first half of the 20th century — dry goods, hardware, post office, gossip — and the building has been preserved in something close to its original form even as its use has changed.

It now houses small shops and is open for browsing during the summer season. Even from outside, the building is the most photographed thing in the village: long, two-storey, painted white with green shutters, set back behind a stretch of grass beside the channel between Great Pond and Long Pond. A useful first stop on a walk through the village.
