Long Pond runs roughly north-south for about seven miles immediately west of Belgrade Lakes village, separated from Great Pond by the narrow strip of land that the village occupies. It is the most scenic of the chain — long, narrow, with steep wooded hills on the west bank that have been protected through conservation easements and that hold the longest stretch of undeveloped shoreline in the area.
The lake is well suited to kayaking and canoeing: there are very few large powerboats, the wind is usually moderate because of the surrounding hills, and the eastern shore has a string of swimming coves. The Mountain Trail and the Roundabout Trail in the Belgrade Lakes Conservation lands climb up from the western shore to give the best lake views in the region.
