The Benson–Hammond House is a brick-and-frame farmhouse on Poplar Avenue, parts of which date to the late 18th century. The house was the centre of a tobacco and dairy farm before BWI Airport was carved out of the surrounding fields in the 1940s, and it now sits as an unlikely survivor under the approach pattern.
It is the headquarters and museum of the Ann Arrundell County Historical Society. Inside you'll find period rooms, exhibits on local Anne Arundel County history, and a particular focus on the families who farmed this corner of Maryland. Hours are limited — usually weekend afternoons — so check ahead.
