Trimper's Rides

Trimper's Rides near the inlet is a remnant of the old-fashioned American amusement park, family-run since the late 19th century and still occupying its original location at the south end of the boardwalk. The outdoor section has the expected rides — spinning teacups, miniature roller coasters, a Ferris wheel. Inside the main building, the 1902 carousel is the real attraction, a hand-carved antique with a Wurlitzer organ, officially a National Historic Landmark.

Trimper's survives because it's genuinely beloved — local families who rode the carousel as children bring their own kids. It's not flashy, but that's the point. Open in season (roughly Memorial Day through Labor Day); the carousel operates year-round on weekends.

A story
Trimper's has been operating near the inlet since 1890, making it one of the oldest continually operated amusement parks in the United States. The carousel inside, built in 1902 by Herschell-Spillman, is a National Historic Landmark — its horses, chariots, and menagerie figures have been turning for over a century.
