Ewell is the usual landing point for Smith Island ferries and the easiest village for a first visit. It has the cultural center, small restaurants, gift shops, lanes used by golf carts, and views into the channels that cut through the island.
This is not a polished waterfront promenade. The appeal is the working texture: crab pots, skiffs, marsh grass, church buildings, and a village that still faces the bay as its main road to the outside world.
