Tilghman Island is a working fishing community, and the bay outside is extraordinarily productive. Charter fishing trips out of Knapps Narrows target rockfish (striped bass), bluefish, and flounder depending on the season. Crabbing trips are available in summer — the blue crab is the defining creature of the Chesapeake and catching your own, then having them steamed at a local place, is one of the great experiences of the Eastern Shore.
Several charter operations run out of the island. Trips run half-day or full-day. The fall rockfish run, when large striped bass move through the bay, is particularly popular and worth booking in advance.
