The oldest Italian cafe in Boston, opened in 1929 and still in the same Romano family. Caffe Vittoria spreads across multiple connecting rooms with marble-topped tables, mosaic floors, pressed-tin ceilings, and a collection of antique espresso machines lined up along the walls — heavy chrome and brass, the kind that hissed in every Italian bar before the Gaggia revolution.
The menu is short and reliable: espresso, cappuccino, granitas, cannoli, sfogliatella, tiramisu. Strong drinks in a back bar, including grappas and decent Italian wines. No mains — this is a cafe for dessert and a coffee after dinner at one of the Hanover Street restaurants, not a place to eat a meal.
The place is open late, the marble tables are usually crowded by 10 pm on weekends, and there is no website reservation — just walk in.
